No Need to Be Hungry in Fort Bragg

Fort Bragg, CA is a Great Last Minute Getaway Town
(FORT BRAGG, CA) -- There are plenty of local coffee shops to
catch a thick cuppa joe and early breakfasts or even late lunches,
but Fort Bragg also boasts a couple of top-rated restaurants
that will allow you to fill your fine dining need.
Get in touch with your organic self at Café
1 and enjoy fresh
food prepared with a conscience. Café 1’s menu is dedicated to
using organic, chemical-free and non-genetically modified products.
They also recycle and compost their waste. All that would be
unimportant if the food was bland, boring or bad – but it is
not!
Great breakfasts and lunches seven days a week, with dinners
Thursday through Saturday; menu selections include “regular”
items like Eggs Benedict during Sunday brunch, or the Hippie
Scramble (mushrooms, squash, broccoli, asparagus, purple cabbage,
tomato, snap peas, red onions, and greens with braised tofu or
organic eggs, served with grilled potatoes, cheddar, jack or
goat cheese and toast -- $10.50) available every day.
The pot of tea was of a French-press type and served four-plus
steaming mugs. Tea choices ranged from Gui Hui Oolong to Yerba
Mate ($3.50).
Other popular coffee houses, include the Headlands
Coffee house and Homestyle Café. Headlands has a comfortable 60’s style and
a casual menu with evening music. The “place to be in Fort Bragg”
they offer Belgian waffles, unique gifts including masks from
around the world, espresso drinks, games & conversation.
It’s not just the name, Homestyle Café is committed
to providing good, old-fashioned comfort food. Menu items include:
Hot and homemade soups and chili, 8 oz. top sirloin steak, lots
of omelettes-including vegetarian and vegan, biscuits and gravy,
waffles, pancakes, linguica, angus ground chuck burgers or
vegetarian gardenburgers, grilled chicken breast sandwiches,
pork chops, chicken fried steak, real mashed potatoes and gravy,
roasted beef & turkey.
Daily breakfast and lunch specials include award-winning clam
chowder on Fridays. This has been a locals’ favorite since 1985.
For a traditional seafaring meal, stop by Silver’s
at the Wharf in Noyo Harbor. The views of the harbor make the window and patio
seats ever popular and worth the (usually) small wait. It had
originally started its life as a coffee shop where the fishermen
would wait out morning weather before heading to sea. Now, it
is a popular place for the all important Friday or Saturday night
date (locals and tourists alike).
Silver Canul, co-owner and Executive Chef, has an extensive
background in French Cuisine, the food of his Mayan heritage,
and Southeast Asian cooking through the Culinary Institute of
Art at Greystone (in St. Helena, CA). This is reflected in the
many lunch and dinner selections that range from seafood platters
to chrispy boneless Cornish game hen. Prices for entrée usually
range from $18 to $25.
